Ms Begum told this newspaper that she expected to be charged with terrorism offences and to be the subject of intense media attention， but was desperate not to be separated from her baby。

Asked if she had made a mistake by travelling to Syria， Ms Begum told Sky News： “In a way， yes， but I don‘t regret it because it’s changed me as a person。 It‘s made me stronger， tougher。 I married my husband。 I wouldn’t have found someone like him back in the UK。”

While not commenting on Shamima Begum‘s case specifically， intelligence service chief Alex Younger said that someone who had been in “that sort of position” was likely to have acquired certain “skills or connections”。
